Another ripoff of the DesNews

Once again it’s time for me to steal from the Deseret Morning News by adding my own comments to Dick Harmon’s BYU Game Day piece. This time, to make sure no one confuses his stuff from mine, I’ll put mine in italics.

Good-bye to Poulsbo

Carpet is being put into the house and Elders’ Quorum guys are coming over today to help us move. It’s good-bye to Poulsbo. I knew I wanted to post some photos showing what we’re leaving, but I started looking them and realized Poulsbo isn’t just a place with a nice view, it’s three years of […]

This train . . .

Been on a house-preparing kick and getting into the new beat, so I haven’t had the energy or commitment to post here. But today I thought I’d check some e-mail and I put on the headphones, listening to Bruce Springsteen’s Land of Hopes and Dreams, which in 2000 joined Thunder Road as one of my […]

Too much ado about me

Last night I announced to the Bainbridge Island City Council that Rachel Pritchett was replacing me as reporter on the island and that next week I’d begin covering Central Kitsap. It’s not that big a deal, I suppose, but it put me in a spotlight I’m not used to being in as a reporter. That […]

Makin’ lemonade

Just got this announcement from CNN.
– President Bush says he takes responsibility for the federal government’s failures in responding to Hurricane Katrina.
Cool. I don’t know under what conditions he takes responsibility, but at least he’s pointing a finger at himself.
Ironically, I read that news clip just after seeing this picture, sent to me by my […]

Every inning is a stretch

In last night’s dream I was playing baseball. It’s a common theme at night. We were at a park this time, in Boise. Someone hit it deep, deep to left. It bounced off the wall and on the carom back it went under my glove.
For 10 years I played the game and loved it, but […]

My trivial pain

The Kitsap Sun links about the 2004 incident don’t work any longer and given the hurricane we have all been fixated with, this topic is incredibly old. When the Cindy Sheehan affair was still alive in the media, including stories I wrote here and here, I began thinking of an incident I had the week […]

All I got was this lousy t-shirt

Just visited a site, Busted Tees (WARNING: Some are rated PG-13), that has some cool t-shirts. So cool, in fact, that if I were comfortable wearing t-shirts, I just might order me some. For now the blog will have to do.

Not family friendly

Nothing major, just thought I’d share a couple of the stickers we rounded up while cleaning the house. When we first toured the house there was one of those astrological charts with a position for each month.
Sadly, the poster was gone when we got there, but the former owners left behind a sticker on the […]

45-10, meh.

They got their 45 points. They won a game they would have been ashamed to lose. They still say they didn’t do as well as they’d like. Two weeks to get ready for TCU probably won’t be enough, but I hope they got some kinks out today.

Pain

My back. My legs. My feet. Oh with the painting and the priming and the lifting and ohhhhh.
Back at it tomorrow. The progress was good today.

As real as it gets

This video exchange between Sean Hannity, Shepard Smith and Geraldo Rivera is outstanding.
Thanks to Slash the Berzerker at the Eric D. Snider Web site message board for pointing it out.

Scoring points

At a mayoral debate tonight on Bainbridge Island, a local Republican got in a dig at New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin.
The question was something like, “Now that the mayor of New Orleans choked, how would you prepare for an emergency?” Bush has been attacked for FEMA’s slow response, so I guess tonight’s question was […]

Money spent on a casino?

My friend Brant wrote that he’d heard on the radio that local officials in New Orleans had diverted funds designed to help shore up the levy for a casino. That may have happened, but I did some checking online today and aside from random posts with no links I haven’t found a single reference to […]

The best Code 911 entry ever!!!

UPDATE: It was published in the Kitsap Sun today.
Click here and look for the item about the veterinarian.
All those years of schooling and still not a lick of common sense.

Before the apocalypse

Here are a few shots of our place before we totally trash it and resurrect it in our image and live in it for 1,000 years. I’ll post more as we progress.
Duncan and David (Diana’s brothers) help measure the front room to figure out where to hide the bodies.
We’re going to skip right over the […]

Boston College 20 - BYU 3

So here’s what we know about BYU, they won’t be in a BCS game this year. It’s hard to make assumptions after one game, especially from 1,000 miles away and relying on a newspaper story. The uniforms look good, though.
The photo is from Mark Philbrick at BYU.

My own “BYU Game Day”

I fully copied and pasted the format from the Deseret Morning News, so credit and apologies to them. I’ve changed some of the content, in fact a lot of it. See which parts are from me and which are from the newspaper! Show your friends. Winners get nothing.

House and a tub

As of yesterday, this house is ours.

We don’t get to go into the house until Sunday, because the sale closed yesterday and the former owners get three days to get the last of their stuff out. We’re going to repaint and carpet. I’ll post before and after pictures sometime by the end of the month.
Also […]
